Queensland Premier Rejects Localized Daylight Saving Proposal

Queensland Premier David Crisafulli rejected a proposal to introduce daylight saving in the state's southeast corner to avoid dividing the region.

Daylight saving time commenced on Sunday morning across New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory, with clocks advancing from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. David Crisafulli, the Premier of Queensland, rejected a proposal to introduce the practice in the state's southeast corner, maintaining Queensland's status as the only eastern seaboard state not to observe daylight saving.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate advocated for the change, suggesting a new time zone boundary be drawn north of Noosa to alleviate logistical and scheduling challenges for businesses in border towns such as Tweed Heads and Coolangatta. Crisafulli dismissed the suggestion, stating that he is "here for uniting Queensland, not dividing it."

Queensland previously trialled daylight saving between 1989 and 1992, but the practice was ultimately rejected by voters in a state referendum.
