J.P. Morgan Estimates Hyperscalers Can Issue $1.7 Trillion AI Debt

J.P. Morgan reports that hyperscalers have the capacity to issue $1.7 trillion in additional high-grade debt to fund artificial intelligence infrastructure.

J.P. Morgan reports that hyperscalers possess the capacity to issue approximately USD 1.7 trillion in additional high-grade debt to fund artificial intelligence infrastructure. This assessment comes as the AI and data center financing universe grows to include 31 issuers with more than USD 576 billion in outstanding bonds and over USD 5 billion in leveraged loans.

While high-performance computing indices for high-grade and high-yield bonds have recently seen volatility and widening spreads, the firm characterizes these shifts as a rational repricing by investors rather than a lack of market capacity. The analysis suggests the high-grade market is currently less concentrated than in previous credit cycles.

This market structure allows insurers to maintain continued room for exposure as infrastructure spending increases. The firm expects the segment of leveraged loans and bond issuances to expand further to meet the growing demands of AI development.
