Azerbaijan and Mongolia Establish Direct Air Connectivity
Azerbaijan and Mongolia are launching direct air services following a bilateral agreement to enable passenger and cargo transport between the two nations.
The Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of Mongolia are establishing direct air connectivity between their two nations. This development follows a bilateral agreement signed on May 6, 2026, in Leipzig, Germany, which creates a legal framework for the transportation of passengers, baggage, cargo, and mail.
Under the terms of the agreement, both countries grant each other overflight rights and the ability to make non-commercial stops. Each party may designate one or more airlines to operate services along specified routes. Azerbaijan's designated carriers are authorized to connect Baku, Ganja, Nakhchivan, Lankaran, Gabala, and Zagatala with Ulaanbaatar, Khovd, and Choibalsan in Mongolia.
The agreement also permits code-sharing and blocked-space arrangements. To maintain reasonable fare levels, both nations must submit flight schedules for prior approval.
