Disneyland Tests AI Robots to Clean 3D Glasses

Disneyland partnered with Physical Intelligence to test AI-trained autonomous robots for sorting and cleaning 3D glasses at several theme park attractions.

Disneyland conducted a 12-day trial using AI-trained autonomous robots to automate the cleaning and sorting of 3D glasses at attractions including Star Tours, Toy Story Midway Mania, Web Slingers, and Mickey’s PhilharMagic. Developed in partnership with the software research startup Physical Intelligence, the robots utilized cameras and gripper clamps to sort glasses and move them onto conveyor belts for sanitization.

The technology was showcased on November 3 at the Disney Accelerator Demo Day at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. Walt Disney Imagineering R&D Executive Nick Blackburn stated the test solved a significant operational problem and allowed the company to test the limits of the technology.

Despite the successful trial, Disneyland officials announced there are currently no plans to launch the technology permanently. The company described the experiment as an opportunity to explore new ideas and collect data on autonomous logistics.
