Supreme Court of India Upholds Shah Rukh Khan Home Clearances

The Supreme Court of India dismissed a petition filed by activist Santosh Daundkar challenging the construction clearances for the renovation of actor Shah Rukh Khan's residence, Mannat, in Bandra, Mumbai. The legal dispute centered on the addition of two floors to a six-story annex building, a project valued at over ₹5 crore. Daundkar alleged that the construction failed to comply with environmental norms and lacked mandatory clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

In its ruling, the court refused to interfere with a September 16, 2025, order from the National Green Tribunal, which had previously upheld a Coastal Regulation Zone clearance granted by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority in January 2025. The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and including Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, stated that the law was broadly followed in the matter.

The court questioned the petitioner's motives and noted that homeowners have the choice to add floors to a residential property. The bench specifically asked why neighbors or other parties should intervene in the renovation of a private residence, provided the legal requirements are met.
