I-405 Resumes Nightly Closures Following Seattle World Cup Events

The Washington State Department of Transportation will resume overnight lane closures and full shutdowns on I-405 starting July 20 to continue widening and toll lane construction.

The Washington State Department of Transportation will resume overnight closures and partial lane restrictions on I-405 starting the week of July 20, 2026. These disruptions follow a temporary pause to accommodate World Cup activities in Seattle.

A total closure of all northbound lanes from I-90 to Northeast Eighth Street is scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, from 11:30 p.m. to 4 a.m., which will affect several on- and off-ramps. Partial lane closures for both northbound and southbound traffic will also occur between July 20 and July 25. Furthermore, Ripley Lane North will be completely closed from 11 p.m. on Friday, July 24, until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 27.

These activities are part of the I-405/Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project. The initiative aims to establish a 40-mile express toll lane system and support a new Bus Rapid Transit line. The state expects the project to be completed by 2027.
