Apple Prepares iOS 27 Public Beta and iPhone 18 Launch

Apple is set to release the first public betas of iOS 27 and other operating systems this week, introducing Siri AI and Liquid Glass design.

Apple is expected to release the first public betas for iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27 on July 14, 2026. This rollout follows three developer beta releases since June's Worldwide Developers Conference. The update introduces a unified numbering system based on the year of use and features "Liquid Glass" design customizations with a transparency slider.

A central addition is Siri AI, a conversational assistant powered by a custom Gemini model with its own standalone app. While iOS 27 supports iPhone 11 and newer models, Siri AI is restricted to iPhone 15 Pro and newer devices. Advanced voice customization requires 12GB of RAM, limiting those features to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air. Due to regulatory disputes and the Digital Markets Act, Siri AI will not be available in the European Union or China at launch.

Other updates include generative AI tools in the Photos app, such as a Spatial Reframe feature and an improved Clean Up eraser, as well as enhanced child safety tools in Screen Time and a CPU Scheduler to improve responsiveness on older hardware. The stable version of iOS 27 is anticipated for general release around September 14, coinciding with a predicted September 8 or 9 keynote. This event is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro series and a first-ever foldable iPhone Ultra.
