Amjad Ayub Mirza Reports Humanitarian Crisis in PoJK and PoGB
Political activist Amjad Ayub Mirza alleges a deepening political and economic crisis in Pakistani-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, marked by strikes and power shortages.
Political activist Amjad Ayub Mirza reports a worsening humanitarian, economic, and political crisis across Pakistani-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Pakistani-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB). In PoJK, health workers are protesting for pensions, permanent employment, and salary increases, alleging the government failed to honor an agreement made four months prior.
The Joint Awami Action Committee has issued 31 demands and scheduled a general strike for June 9, with protest marches intended to converge on Muzaffarabad. Mirza also noted that local elections in the territory have been delayed without an official explanation.
In PoGB, the crisis manifests as severe electricity shortages, with daily load-shedding lasting 20 to 22 hours. These outages have crippled local industries and created financial hardships that have forced some families to withdraw their children from school.
