Republic Launches Mirror Tokens for SpaceX Exposure
Digital asset platform Republic plans to offer retail investors exposure to SpaceX through mirror tokens representing unsecured debt in a special-purpose vehicle.
Digital asset platform Republic plans to provide retail investors with exposure to high-demand private companies, beginning with Space Exploration Technologies Corp. The company will utilize mirror tokens to facilitate this access, though these tokens differ from standard asset-backed tokens.
Rather than being backed by actual company assets, the mirror tokens represent unsecured debt in RepublicX LLC, a special-purpose limited-liability corporation created to mint and distribute the tokens. Republic CEO Kendrick Nguyen stated the company intends to hold shares or other exposure to the underlying securities, although these specific details were absent from the reservation website.
Critics have raised concerns regarding the financial structure, warning that it lacks cryptographic collateral and legally secured rights for investors. Because acquiring official shares in private companies like SpaceX is difficult, observers suggest the current model potentially exposes retail investors to substantial risk and scams.
