Armenia Celebrates 35th Independence Anniversary With National Festivities

The Government of Armenia celebrated the 35th anniversary of its independence on September 21, 2026. The national holiday commemorates the 1991 referendum in which 94.99% of eligible citizens voted to secede from the Soviet Union, leading the Supreme Council to proclaim independence on September 23.

To mark the occasion, the government organized a series of festive concerts themed Enduring State. While the primary celebration took place at Republic Square in Yerevan, additional concerts were held in Gyumri, Vanadzor, Kapan, and Ijevan.

International leaders extended their congratulations to the Armenian people. The United States expressed interest in deepening bilateral ties through the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity to increase American investment and economic connectivity in the region. Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko also sent a message characterizing the anniversary as a symbol of Armenia's desire for independent development and the preservation of its culture, noting that ties between Minsk and Yerevan provide a foundation for a constructive partnership.
