Andaman Administration Withdraws Green AI Data Centre Proposal
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration cancelled plans for a private sector-led Green AI data centre vertical due to environmental and zoning conflicts.
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration withdrew a proposal to establish a private sector-led Green AI and Data Centre Vertical in Great Nicobar or Little Andaman. The administration had previously issued an Expression of Interest to cloud service providers, hyperscalers, and renewable-energy companies to evaluate the feasibility of energy-efficient digital infrastructure, including high-performance computing and GPU systems.
The project intended to utilize the islands' strategic location and implement innovative seawater-based cooling systems. However, the administration retracted the proposal after determining that the earmarked sea areas in Hutbay Sea, Anderson Bay, and Campbell Bay overlapped with zones designated for residential areas, agriculture, biodiversity tourism, and wildlife corridors in the draft master plan.
This decision follows broader environmental concerns surrounding a separate 81,000-crore mega infrastructure project in Great Nicobar.
