Rajnath Singh Links Strategic Infrastructure to National Security
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the indispensable role of border infrastructure and launched new digital platforms during a Border Roads Organisation conclave in New Delhi.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asserted on July 16, 2026, that strategic infrastructure such as roads, tunnels, airfields, and ports remains indispensable to military operations, even as the armed forces adopt advanced weapons and precision technology. Speaking at the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Strategic Infrastructure Conclave in New Delhi, Singh stated that robust infrastructure forms the backbone of military operations and described those constructing these assets as vital guardians of national security.
During the two-day event, Singh launched two digital platforms for recruitment and project management, released three flagship publications, and unveiled the BRO Anthem. He cited the Atal Tunnel, Umling La Pass road, and Sela Tunnel as examples of engineering success. He also highlighted the Vibrant Village Programme, which aims to transform border villages into first villages to ensure inclusive development and support the Viksit Bharat 2047 goal.
Lieutenant General Harpal Singh, Director General of the BRO, detailed the agency's transition toward AI-enabled solutions, digital planning, and mechanization. He noted that strategic capability is now defined by intelligent planning, rapid execution, and sustainable maintenance to build resilient, future-ready infrastructure in challenging border terrains.
