Om Birla Inaugurates Rajasthan Assembly 75th Anniversary Celebrations
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan led celebrations for the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly's 75th anniversary in Jaipur.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the 75th-anniversary conclave of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on July 15, 2026, in Jaipur. The celebrations, which included the 'Vidhayi Gaurav Yatra' and the 'Amrit Mahotsav' session, commemorated the institution's democratic journey since 1952. Birla described legislatures as "schools of democracy" and credited the Rajasthan Assembly as his own first school of legislative ethos, urging young legislators to prioritize continuous learning over rhetoric.
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan attended as the chief guest for the finale of the Vidhayi Gaurav Yatra. He praised the unity between the ruling party and the Opposition as a reflection of Indian democracy's maturity and urged legislators to maintain active participation in committee meetings. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Governor Haribhau Bagde also addressed the gathering, linking the legislature's role to the 'Developed Rajasthan-2047' vision.
During the Amrit Mahotsav session, moderated by Speaker Vasudev Devnani, current and former legislators reviewed landmark laws, including the Rajasthan Sati (Prevention) Act 1987 and the Rajasthan Platform-Based Gig Workers Act 2023. While Opposition Leader Tikaram Jully called the milestone a moment of pride, BJP leader Rajendra Singh Rathore used the occasion to claim the Congress party is shrinking and gripped by fear.
