India and UK Deepen Financial Ties via GIFT City
India and the United Kingdom agreed to strengthen capital market connectivity and cross-border investment during the fourth India-UK Financial Markets Dialogue in London.
The Ministry of Finance of India and HM Treasury agreed to deepen cross-border investment and strengthen capital market connectivity during the fourth India-UK Financial Markets Dialogue held in London on September 29. The two nations will explore equity and bond listings through the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City International Financial Services Centre to improve the ability of Indian firms to access international capital.
Regulatory cooperation will focus on asset management, pensions, and insurance. The dialogue also emphasized the continued internationalization of the Indian rupee, with London serving as a primary offshore trading hub. Both governments addressed the intersection of artificial intelligence and financial services, specifically focusing on the risks of fraud and cybersecurity.
This financial cooperation follows the July 15, 2026, implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and the launch of Vision 2035. Supporting these goals, the Reserve Bank of India has eased overseas access to corporate and sovereign debt, while the Securities and Exchange Board of India implemented reforms to streamline participation for global investors.
