UBA Appoints Emmanuel Nnorom as Next Group Chairman

United Bank for Africa appointed Emmanuel Nnorom to succeed Tony Elumelu as Group Chairman on August 21, 2026, following a mandatory tenure limit.

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc announced that Emmanuel Nnorom will become its next Group Chairman on August 21, 2026. Nnorom, a chartered accountant with over 40 years of experience in finance and auditing, was appointed during a board meeting on July 6, 2026. He has previously served as the Group Chief Executive Officer of Heirs Holdings and the President and CEO of Transnational Corporation Plc.

Nnorom succeeds Tony Elumelu, who retires after completing a 12-year tenure. This retirement follows the corporate governance guidelines established by the Central Bank of Nigeria, which mandate a maximum 12-year limit for non-executive directors. Under Elumelu's leadership, the institution expanded into 20 African countries and four global financial centers, serving more than 50 million customers.

UBA credited Elumelu with transforming the organization into Africa's Global Bank. Elumelu stated that the transition reflects the fulfillment of a vision and the readiness of the institution for its next chapter. Nnorom pledged to maintain the bank's growth trajectory and continue delivering long-term value to stakeholders and shareholders.
