Walmart Probes Flipkart Over 150 Crore Kickback Scheme
Walmart is investigating Flipkart employees following whistleblower allegations of a 150 crore kickback scheme involving preferential treatment for vendors.
Walmart is investigating employees at its subsidiary, Flipkart, following whistleblower complaints regarding a kickback scheme. The probe focuses on allegations that staff accepted favors and financial cuts from vendors to secure preferential treatment and increased visibility on the e-commerce platform, specifically within business-to-business operations.
Internal estimates place the financial misappropriation at approximately ₹150 crore. This is the third internal investigation Walmart has launched at Flipkart in less than three years, following previous probes into the smartphones division and the LTA department.
The investigation coincides with a period of internal instability for Flipkart. The company has seen the departure of at least 14 vice presidents and senior vice presidents over the past year. Additionally, the firm faces employee dissatisfaction regarding stock ownership plans and ongoing uncertainty regarding the timeline for its initial public offering.
