Victorian Minister Finds Engraved Bullet on Family Car
Emergency Services Minister Paul Edbrooke reported finding a bullet engraved with his ID number on his car, leading to accusations against the United Firefighter's Union.
Victorian Emergency Services Minister Paul Edbrooke discovered a bullet engraved with the word "RAT" and his firefighter ID number on the bonnet of his family car following a professional engagement in Melbourne on Saturday. Edbrooke, a former firefighter, alleged that aggrieved members of the United Firefighter's Union planted the object and claimed the union has "lost control" of its members.
United Firefighter's Union secretary Peter Marshall condemned the threat and pledged full cooperation with the Victoria Police investigation. However, Edbrooke cited "violent language" used by Marshall at a recent rally, specifically a video in which Marshall stated, "You affect our members, you're in the gun."
Marshall defended the remark, clarifying that it referred to the ballot box rather than physical violence. He accused the government of Premier Ben Carroll of weakening employee protections. The incident occurs amid strained relations between the Labor government and the union over funding and pay disputes.
