FBI Arrests Suspected Chinese Agent at LAX Airport

The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested Wanying Zhang, 34, at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday as she attempted to board a flight to Shanghai. Federal authorities charged Zhang with acting as an unregistered agent of the government of China.

According to First Assistant US Attorney Bill Essayli, Zhang conducted surveillance on the son of Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te and his family during 2025. The U.S. government alleges that Zhang filmed the family's residence and vehicles and subsequently funneled the gathered intelligence to handlers in China.
