Sibanye-Stillwater Ends Montana Strike With New Labor Agreement
Sibanye-Stillwater ended a strike at its Montana facilities after workers ratified a multi-year collective bargaining agreement including phased wage increases.
Sibanye-Stillwater ended a strike at its Stillwater East mine and Columbus metallurgical facility in Montana after workers ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with the United Steelworkers International Union. The agreement is retroactive to June 1, 2026, and runs through May 2029.
Under the terms of the deal, employees will receive a 4.5% wage increase in the first year. For the second year, workers will receive the greater of 3.5% or the consumer price index, followed by the greater of 3.0% or the consumer price index in the third year. This resolution follows a similar wage agreement finalized in September at the East Boulder mine.
Company leadership stated the agreements support a transition to fully mechanized mining and the use of team-based incentives to ensure the long-term sustainability of its U.S. platinum group metals operations. Employees are expected to resume their duties on October 9, 2026.
