Russian Strikes Cause Widespread Blackouts in Dnipro
Russian ballistic missiles and drones targeted energy infrastructure in Dnipro, leaving over 350,000 customers without power and damaging critical trunk grid equipment.
The Military of Russia launched a series of ballistic missile and drone strikes on Dnipro and the surrounding Dnipropetrovsk region on October 30. The attacks targeted energy infrastructure, damaging trunk grid equipment and causing widespread blackouts. Initial reports indicated over 200,000 people lost power, though later updates from regional officials increased that figure to more than 350,000 customers in the city and nearby settlements.
Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, stated that water supply and sewage pumping stations were switched to backup generators to maintain operations. The power company DTEK reported that equipment in the region suffered serious damage. These strikes followed a drone attack on a railway platform on October 29 that killed at least 14 people.
Amid the infrastructure attacks, officials from Russia and Ukraine arrived in the occupied city of Oleshky on October 30 to oversee the evacuation of stranded residents under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire. Separately, the Colombian foreign ministry reported that over 250 Colombian nationals have died and nearly 1,000 have disappeared while fighting on both sides of the conflict.
