Ireland Pledges €500,000 for Nepal Flood and Landslide Relief

The Government of Ireland has allocated €500,000 in emergency funding to support disaster relief efforts in Nepal following catastrophic flash floods and landslides on August 26, 2026. The disaster caused 626 deaths and left 2,500 people missing in Nepal, while Chinese state media reported seven deaths and 554 missing in the border region of Tibet.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Helen McEntee and Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora Neale Richmond announced the aid package, which will be channeled through the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Nepalese Red Cross. The funding aims to provide emergency shelter, clean drinking water, first aid, and health support to approximately 10,000 households. This assistance complements existing support from the Irish Red Cross and the Irish Aid humanitarian network.

Two Irish citizens, Santosh Sahu and Spandan Sahu, are among the missing. Minister McEntee stated that Ireland stands with the people of Nepal during this distressing time, while Minister Richmond noted that the funding will support life-saving efforts to address the extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.
