Visa Acquires BioCatch for $2.4 Billion to Combat AI Fraud

Visa is purchasing fraud intelligence provider BioCatch for $2.4 billion in cash to enhance its real-time behavioral fraud detection capabilities.

Visa announced Monday that it will acquire fraud intelligence provider BioCatch for $2.4 billion in cash. The payment processor will purchase the company from investment firm Permira and other investors to strengthen its cybersecurity, fraud, and risk security offerings.

BioCatch specializes in real-time fraud detection by analyzing behavioral signals, including device handling and keystrokes. The company currently serves more than 350 banking clients across 21 countries. Visa intends to integrate this technology to stop fraudulent activity before payments are processed, specifically to counter account takeovers and scams that have increased in scale due to artificial intelligence.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of Visa's fiscal second quarter of 2027.
