Nepal Flash Floods Kill 579 With India Sending Aid

Flash floods in Nepal have caused widespread devastation, leaving 579 people dead and 1,924 missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. The disaster has left hundreds of people stranded, including approximately 320 Indian nationals and persons of Indian origin who remain uncontactable.

Mallikarjun Kharge, President of the Indian National Congress, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to provide comprehensive humanitarian aid and deploy National Disaster Response Force teams for rescue and evacuation operations. Kharge requested that the Indian government ensure adequate relief assistance is provided in coordination with the Government of Nepal.

The Government of India has responded with multiple shipments of aid. Following a second consignment of 37.5 tonnes of medicines, food, and relief materials on Thursday, a third flight arrived Friday. This latest shipment included 10 tonnes of humanitarian assistance, such as water purification tablets and portable generators, alongside an 11-member medical and tunnel rescue team.
