Justice Department Launches Election Interference Hotlines in Pennsylvania
The United States Department of Justice established reporting hotlines in three Pennsylvania cities to deter election interference and combat campaign disruptions.
The United States Department of Justice established dedicated reporting hotlines in Williamsport, Harrisburg, and Scranton to deter and fight election interference. The initiative specifically targets paid operatives who enter districts to disrupt political campaigns or issue threats of violence.
Federal prosecutors are monitoring interference efforts, while the department directed complaints regarding federal voting rights violations to its Civil Rights Division in Washington.
Despite the new federal resources, the department advised the public to contact 911 for immediate violence or intimidation. State and local police maintain primary jurisdiction over polling places and are positioned to respond faster to emergencies than federal authorities.
