Malawi Vice-President Jane Ansah Accuses Government of Sidelining

Malawi First Vice-President Jane Mayemu Ansah has publicly accused the government and members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of systematically sidelining and marginalizing her since her nomination. In interviews with Zodiak Broadcasting Station, Ansah stated that she has been shut out by bitter factions within the ruling party, noting that senior members and the First Lady failed to greet her upon her nomination for the 2025 elections.

Ansah specifically accused Chief Secretary to Government Dr. Justin Saidi of blocking her from Cabinet meetings and withholding essential documents. She further claimed she was barred from President Peter Mutharika's victory address and his first official trip to South Africa. The Vice-President has already been stripped of key responsibilities regarding disaster management and public service reform. She also noted that Saidi previously led a delegation requesting her resignation without a legal basis.

Despite these tensions, Ansah maintains that her relationship with President Peter Mutharika remains cordial. She clarified that the challenges she faces are not based on her gender, observing that the office of the vice president has historically faced similar problems. Ansah is currently demanding a formal explanation from Dr. Saidi before escalating the matter to the President.
