Alberta Government Pledges $11 Million to Combat Human Trafficking

The Government of Alberta reaffirmed its commitment to protecting victims of sex, labour, and organ trafficking through a joint statement issued on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. Since 2023, the provincial government has allocated more than $11 million in funding to anti-trafficking organizations to establish a trauma-informed support network.

Ministers from Public Safety, Women's Status, Children and Family Services, and Indigenous Relations emphasized the necessity of coordinated responses. They specifically identified the disproportionate impact of exploitation on Indigenous women, girls, and Two Spirit Plus people. Investments have been directed toward child advocacy centres and women’s shelters to improve prevention and survivor support.

The Alberta Centre to End Trafficking in Persons is currently leading a no-wrong-door response strategy. This year's initiative, themed Trapped Behind the Scam, focuses on dismantling exploitation networks and protecting individuals who have become victims of forced criminality.
