Indiana National Guard Deploys 125 Members to Texas Border
The Indiana National Guard is deploying 125 members to southern Texas for a yearlong mission supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection surveillance operations.
Approximately 125 members of the Indiana National Guard from Plymouth are deploying to southern Texas for a nearly yearlong mission to support immigration enforcement. The mobilization, which includes the 381st Military Police Company along with medics, supply specialists, and mechanics, is part of Operation Arden Vanguard. The troops will serve as additional surveillance for U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Under the mission's operational guidelines, Guard members will act as an extra set of eyes and ears, communicating sightings via radio to federal agents who will then respond to the scene. This deployment replaces the 38th Military Police Company from Monticello, which is expected to return to Indiana within a few weeks.
Before departing, the personnel completed nearly a month of training at Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh. They are scheduled to undergo further training at Fort Bliss and at their final mission site in Texas. Commanding General Justin Mann stated that the troops are trained and ready to support the needs of the state and nation.
