U.S.-Israeli Air Campaign Threatens Middle East AI Investments

U.S.-Israeli military action against Iran creates instability for tens of billions of dollars in AI and cloud infrastructure investments in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

An expanding U.S.-Israeli air campaign against Iran has introduced significant geopolitical risk to multi-billion dollar artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure projects in the Middle East. These investments are part of broader regional strategies by the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia to transition their economies away from hydrocarbon dependence.

In the United Arab Emirates, Microsoft is investing $15.2 billion through 2029, primarily through a partnership with the Abu Dhabi-based AI firm G42. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has attracted massive commitments from several American technology firms. Amazon Web Services is investing over $5.3 billion in a new data-center region, and Oracle is committing $1.5 billion to expand cloud infrastructure. Additionally, Google Cloud and the Public Investment Fund are spending $10 billion to establish a global AI hub.

While these long-term strategic investments remain officially in place, the escalating regional conflict has raised concerns regarding operational resilience, financing, logistics, and project timelines.
