Israeli Forces Detain Al Jazeera Correspondent in West Bank Raid

Israeli forces detained Al Jazeera correspondent Montaser Nassar and 20 Palestinians during a West Bank raid before releasing them several hours later.

Israeli forces detained Montaser Nassar, an Al Jazeera correspondent, and at least 20 other Palestinians during a military raid in Dura, near Hebron, in the occupied West Bank on November 3, 2026. Troops arrived at Nassar's home around 2:30 a.m., where they reportedly assaulted his wife and confiscated his personal phone. Video footage captured Nassar being led into a military vehicle while blindfolded and handcuffed.

Nassar and the other detainees were held for several hours at an army camp near the Fawwar refugee camp. During this period, detainees were allegedly assaulted, forced into exhausting positions, and threatened by officers from Shin Bet, the Israeli internal security service. All detainees were released as troops withdrew from the area.

The operation in Dura was part of a broader series of Israeli military raids across the West Bank, including actions in Tammun, the Far’a refugee camp, Qalqilya, and Nablus. This incident follows a history of tension between Israel and Al Jazeera, including a 2024 raid on the broadcaster's Ramallah bureau that resulted in a court-ordered closure.
