Armenia Seeks Comprehensive Talks With Russia Over Trade Restrictions
Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan called for bilateral negotiations with Russia to lift export restrictions and establish a healthier diplomatic relationship.
Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced on Thursday that Armenia is seeking comprehensive talks with Russia to resolve current trade restrictions and improve bilateral relations. Speaking in parliament, Mirzoyan expressed hope that dialogue with Moscow would place the relationship between the two nations on a "healthier footing."
Mirzoyan acknowledged that Armenian businesses are exploring promising opportunities in new international markets, though he noted that these ventures are not yet achieving substantial export volumes. He rejected the idea that the European Union is the only alternative to Russia for Armenian trade, asserting that other countries and continents offer viable markets.
The push for negotiations comes as the Armenian government attempts to diversify its export destinations while simultaneously working to remove the barriers imposed by the Russian government on Armenian goods.
