India NBFC Credit Grows 14.4% to ₹59.31 Lakh Crore
Non-banking financial companies saw outstanding credit grow 14.4% to ₹59.31 lakh crore in June 2026, driven by a surge in retail and gold loans.
Non-banking financial companies in India extended ₹59.31 lakh crore in outstanding credit as of June 2026, representing a 14.4% increase year-on-year. This growth was primarily driven by the retail lending sector, which expanded 20.3% to reach ₹25.62 lakh crore.
The most significant growth occurred in loans against gold jewellery, which surged 69.3% to ₹3.41 lakh crore. Gold loans now account for 13.3% of all retail loans provided by these institutions. Other high-growth areas included consumer durable loans, which rose 46.8%, and commercial real estate lending, which increased 33.8%.
Credit expansion was also noted in other sectors, with agriculture credit rising 17.9% and services sector credit growing 17.6%. In contrast, credit to the industry sector saw a more modest increase of 6.7%.
