Jagan Mohan Reddy Demands President's Rule in Andhra Pradesh
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded President's Rule in Andhra Pradesh, alleging the ruling coalition used police and violence to obstruct opposition election nominations.
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded the immediate imposition of President's Rule in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, alleging a total breakdown of law and order during local body election nominations. Reddy accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of running a "jungle raj" and utilizing police machinery to obstruct opposition candidates.
Reddy claimed YSRCP candidates were abducted by police, chased with knives and sticks, and had their nomination papers torn. He specifically highlighted an attack on YSRCP MP PV Mithun Reddy, asserting that Central Reserve Police Force personnel were injured and forced to fire warning shots to control supporters of the ruling party. Reddy also cited police firing in Pulivendula as evidence of a conspiracy to hijack the elections.
Beyond the violence, Reddy questioned the impartiality of State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha, noting Punetha's previous tenure as Chief Secretary under Naidu. He alleged the State Election Commission functioned in favor of the ruling coalition while the government failed to fulfill its 'Super Six' promises. Speaking from Bengaluru, Reddy urged the central government to intervene, stating that constitutional systems in the state have been neutralized.
