Swiss National Bank Reports 44.2 Billion Francs Year-to-Date Profit
The Swiss National Bank reported a 19.1 billion franc profit for the third quarter, bringing its 2026 year-to-date gains to 44.2 billion francs.
The Swiss National Bank reported a profit of 19.1 billion Swiss francs ($23.3 billion) for the third quarter of 2026. This result brings the bank's total year-to-date profit to 44.2 billion francs, approximately $53.8 billion.
These gains were primarily driven by the bank's gold holdings and foreign currency positions. The portfolio is heavily weighted toward government bonds at 61% and equities at 28%, with significant exposure to the U.S. dollar (37%) and the euro (39%). Despite the overall gains, the third-quarter result represents a year-on-year decline of nearly 32%.
While these profits may lead to payouts for local and federal Swiss governments, the bank emphasized that its primary mandate is ensuring price stability in Switzerland. The bank stated that monetary policy decisions take priority over annual financial results and that its goal is not to generate profit.
