Faishal Ibrahim Resigns From Singapore Cabinet Over Conduct Lapse

Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim resigned from the cabinet, parliament, and the ruling People's Action Party on July 20, 2026. The resignation followed an investigation into inappropriate interactions with a woman, which primarily occurred through online messages and meetings at public events. The matter was brought to light after the woman sent a detailed email with screenshots to the Prime Minister's Office.

While both parties filed mutual harassment allegations, police and the Attorney-General's Chambers concluded that no criminal offenses were committed and no legal action would be taken. In his resignation letter, Faishal admitted to a "lapse of judgment" and a failure to establish clear boundaries, though he denied that any physical relationship existed. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong stated that Faishal's conduct fell short of the standards expected of a political office holder and noted that the interactions were "questionable and inappropriate."

People's Action Party Chairman Desmond Lee confirmed that no by-election will be held for the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC, as Singapore law does not require one unless all MPs in the constituency step down. The remaining four MPs, including Seah Kian Peng and Goh Pei Ming, will divide the responsibilities of the Kembangan ward to ensure residents continue to receive services. Zaqy Mohamad has been appointed to assume the role of Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs.
