GMAC Survey Finds AI Skills Gap in Management Graduates
The Graduate Management Admission Council reports that employers are replacing entry-level roles with AI while struggling to find graduates with sufficient AI proficiency.
The Graduate Management Admission Council released its 2026 Corporate Recruiters Survey, revealing a significant gap between employer expectations and the skills of management graduates. While AI and data interpretation are currently the most sought-after qualifications, recruiters identify AI proficiency as the area where new graduates are least prepared.
Data from 621 recruiters across 39 countries shows that one-third of employers have already replaced entry-level positions in customer service, data entry, and coding with AI. This trend is most prominent within the technology and manufacturing sectors. The report also notes a shift in educational preferences, with 61% of employers now viewing online degrees as equal to traditional in-person degrees.
Recruitment patterns for international talent are shifting in the United States. The survey found that 40% of U.S. employers are avoiding international hires for roles based at domestic headquarters, citing U.S. government visa policies as the primary driver for this trend.
