Mike Minogue Accuses Maura Healey of Trading Police Contract for Endorsement
Republican candidate Mike Minogue alleged Governor Maura Healey traded a state police union contract for a political endorsement, a claim the union and governor deny.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Minogue alleged that Governor Maura Healey engaged in an illegal quid pro quo by exchanging a new union contract for a political endorsement from the State Police Association of Massachusetts (SPAM). In posts on X, Minogue claimed the deal included wage increases totaling 18% and was withheld from the public until after the election to secure political gain.
SPAM President Brendan Murphy rejected the allegations as categorically false, stating the contract was negotiated through a standard process involving mediation, fact-finding, and arbitration. Murphy clarified that the actual raise is 11% over three years, which aligns with other state unions, and demanded that Minogue apologize to state troopers for questioning their integrity.
Governor Maura Healey dismissed the claims as lies and nonsense, while her campaign spokesperson described the accusations as an unhinged rant. Following the backlash, the Minogue campaign clarified that the grievances were directed at the governor rather than the troopers. Minogue has since called for an official, verifiable statement from the Healey administration, subject to public records laws, to determine if a connection existed between the contract and the endorsement.
