UN Experts Condemn Escalation of Israeli Attacks in Palestine

United Nations experts reported a sharp escalation of attacks against Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank during July 2026. The United Nations reported that Israeli forces killed approximately 160 Palestinians in Gaza during the month, contributing to a total death toll exceeding 1,200 since a nominal ceasefire began in October 2025. Most of these July killings occurred in Al-Mawasi, a densely populated displacement zone.

Experts highlighted the destruction of residential blocks, strikes on hospitals, and the construction of a 23-kilometre barrier. They characterized these actions as a process of re-engineering the geography of illegally occupied Gaza. In the West Bank, the experts reported the killing of at least 14 Palestinians and a surge in settler terror, including a July 24 incident in Tell where four men from one family were killed.

Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese and other experts asserted that the genocide is continuing unabated. They called for immediate compliance with a 2024 International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion, which determined that Israel's presence in the occupied territories is unlawful.
