Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Georgia Sign Istanbul Declaration

Foreign ministers from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Georgia signed the Istanbul Declaration to bolster regional security, energy corridors, and transport connectivity in the South Caucasus.

Foreign ministers from Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Georgia convened in Istanbul on June 8, 2026, for their 10th trilateral meeting. Hosted by Hakan Fidan, the gathering focused on coordinating foreign policy in the South Caucasus, enhancing energy security, and strengthening regional transit networks. The ministers highlighted the strategic importance of the Middle Corridor, specifically the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, as a critical link between Europe and Asia.

The meeting culminated in the signing of the Istanbul Declaration. This agreement reinforces mutual support for sovereignty and territorial integrity, with a specific emphasis on restoring Georgia's territorial integrity within its recognized borders. The three nations pledged deeper cooperation in combating terrorism, cyber-attacks, and organized crime, while also prioritizing green energy and climate change initiatives.

On the margins of the trilateral summit, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Georgia's Deputy Prime Minister Maka Botchorishvili held bilateral talks to review their strategic partnership and discussed the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The ministers also acknowledged Türkiye's upcoming presidency of COP 31 and Azerbaijan's hosting of the 13th World Urban Forum.

The group concluded the session by agreeing to hold the 11th trilateral meeting in Georgia in 2027.
