Tesla Captures 54 Percent of US EV Market
Tesla increased its US electric-vehicle market share to 54 percent in the third quarter as sales for other manufacturers declined.
Tesla expanded its dominance in the United States electric-vehicle market during the third quarter, selling an estimated 144,094 vehicles. This figure represents a 15 percent increase from the second quarter, while combined sales for all other EV manufacturers fell by approximately 3 percent.
High gasoline prices, which exceeded 4 dollars a gallon, drove a recovery in consumer interest. Despite the quarterly gain, the broader market remains depressed compared to the previous year. Total US EV sales dropped nearly 40 percent year-over-year, and Tesla sales declined about 20 percent compared to the same period last year.
Growth for the company remains heavily concentrated in the Model Y and Model 3, which account for roughly 97 percent of its US sales. The Cybertruck contributed to the total with over 4,300 units sold.
