Mark McCormick Proposes AI Data Centers on Military Bases
Representative Mark McCormick urged the U.S. to build AI data centers on military bases to bypass community protests and maintain a global technological edge.
U.S. Representative Mark McCormick warned that delays in constructing artificial intelligence data centers could cause the United States to fall behind global competitors. He suggested that protests against these facilities may be fueled by nefarious outside influence, speculating that China or other competitors might be funding opposition to hinder American technological progress.
To mitigate community opposition and land-use conflicts, McCormick proposed that the administration and the Pentagon build data centers on military bases. He specifically identified Fort Gordon, Fort Benning, and Fort Hunter in Georgia as potential sites that could be leased to reduce base expenditures.
Mccormick argued that modern data centers are environmentally responsible, noting the use of clean fuel cells and closed-loop water systems to address ecological concerns.
