West Virginia and Madison County Recruit General Election Poll Workers

The West Virginia Secretary of State and Madison County officials are recruiting poll workers for the general election on November 3. The Secretary of State reports vacancies across 15 counties, including Berkeley, Cabell, and Wood. Candidates must be registered voters in their serving county, literate in English, and complete mandatory training, though eligible high school juniors and seniors may serve in some instances.

In Madison County, County Clerk Kenny Barger is seeking additional workers and approximately 10 alternates to cover absences during early voting and election day. Barger specifically noted a shortage of Republicans in Berea, stating the need to maintain party parity at the polls.

While Madison County previously required more than 300 workers, the adoption of a county-wide polling location model has reduced the total estimated requirement to approximately 140 workers.
