CSTO Halts Military Cooperation With Armenia

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has stopped all military, technico-military, and other sectoral cooperation with Armenia. Mikael Agasandyan, Director of the First Department for CIS Countries at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed the cessation of multilateral ties, which follows Armenia's 2024 decision to freeze its participation in the alliance.

Despite the breakdown in multilateral cooperation, Russia continues to maintain bilateral sectoral relations with Armenia. This includes the supply of military-purpose products on preferential terms under an existing legal framework.

Questions remain regarding Armenia's status within the organization. Viktor Vasilyev, Russia's permanent representative to the CSTO, stated that stripping Armenia of its voting rights would require a consensus among member states. The heads of member states are scheduled to discuss the matter during the next CSTO Collective Security Council meeting on November 11 in Moscow.
