Florida Primaries Set General Election Matchups for House Seats
Amanda Green and Dan Green won primary elections in Florida, setting up November contests for the state's 2nd and 9th Congressional Districts.
Florida primary elections on August 18, 2026, determined the general election matchups for two U.S. House seats. In the 2nd Congressional District, Amanda Green, a former USAID subsidiary employee, won the Democratic nomination after defeating Yen Bailey, Nicholas Zateslo, and Brice Barnes. Green campaigned on economic issues including housing and insurance costs and received endorsements from the AFL-CIO and Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil.
Green will face Republican nominee Austin Rogers in November for the seat vacated by retiring Representative Neal Dunn. Rogers, a former general counsel to Senator Rick Scott and former legal staffer for the Senate Judiciary Committee, won a crowded eight-person primary. Rogers has pledged to implement the agenda of Donald Trump in a district that the Cook Political Report considers solidly Republican.
In Florida's 9th Congressional District, Dan Green won the Republican primary with 25.38% of the vote, narrowly defeating Ben Butler. A former research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, Green will challenge Democratic incumbent Representative Darren Soto in the November 3 general election. The contest follows a redistricting effort by the Republican-led Florida Legislature that expanded District 9 to include seven counties, stretching from Orlando to Yeehaw Junction.
