BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme Hypercar Crashes During Speed Test
A BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme hypercar was destroyed during a high-speed test run in China while attempting to reach 500 kilometers per hour.
BYD suffered a significant setback when a Yangwang U9 Xtreme hypercar crashed on a closed-loop track in China. The vehicle was undergoing a test run to attempt a top speed of 500 kilometers per hour, or approximately 311 miles per hour.
The hypercar, powered by four electric motors producing roughly 3,000 horsepower, struck a barrier at high speed. The impact tore the vehicle to shreds and completely detached the rear axle. Despite the severity of the wreckage, the driver survived without injury because the cockpit remained intact.
BYD has marketed the 3 million dollar vehicle with a claimed top speed of 308 mph. The company plans a limited production run of only 30 cars worldwide.
