Iran Discovers 7.5 Trillion Cubic Feet of Natural Gas
Iran announced a massive natural gas discovery in Fars province to offset production losses caused by airstrikes from the United States and Israel.
The Government of Iran announced the discovery of more than 7.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the southern Fars province, with approximately 5.7 trillion cubic feet estimated as recoverable. Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad stated the find includes gas condensates valued at tens of billions of dollars.
This discovery comes as Iran seeks to recover from months of conflict with the United States and Israel that began in late February. Airstrikes targeting energy infrastructure, including the South Pars field, destroyed roughly 25% of the country's daily gas production capacity.
While the government intends to develop the new resources as quickly as possible, officials expect production to take years to materialize. Consequently, the government has warned citizens of potential energy shortages this winter and urged a reduction in consumption.
