DataDome CEO Urges Shift to Intent-Based AI Security
Benjamin Fabre proposes replacing identity-based cybersecurity with intent-based analysis to distinguish between harmful bots and legitimate AI agents.
DataDome CEO Benjamin Fabre is advocating for a fundamental shift in cybersecurity strategy to address the rise of agentic AI. Fabre argues that the traditional binary distinction between humans and bots is now obsolete because AI agents frequently perform legitimate business transactions, such as navigating websites and purchasing products.
According to Fabre, legacy security tools like browser fingerprinting and CAPTCHA are increasingly ineffective, as modern bots can bypass these measures or utilize CAPTCHA farms. He warns that overly aggressive bot blocking often results in false positives, which can drive customer churn and lead to significant revenue loss for businesses.
To combat these challenges, Fabre proposes a new framework centered on intent-based analysis rather than identity-based detection. This approach utilizes behavioral analytics and real-time machine learning to evaluate the specific purpose of automated actions. By analyzing intent, Fabre asserts that companies can effectively distinguish between helpful automation and harmful fraudsters.
