Israeli Drone Strike Kills Amal Member in Southern Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces killed a medical worker in a drone strike in Qabrikha, prompting warnings from Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam against escalation.
The Israel Defense Forces conducted a drone strike on Wednesday in the village of Qabrikha, southern Lebanon, killing one person and wounding another. The military stated the operation targeted two individuals suspected of monitoring Israeli troops and posing an immediate threat to forces operating in the security zone. Local reports identified the deceased as Nasser Mohammed Younes, a medical team member with the Islamic Message Scouts, the scouting wing of the Amal movement. A local photojournalist was also wounded in the attack.
The strike marked the first major Israeli military action in the region in several weeks and occurred alongside artillery shelling in Mansouri and Baraachit, as well as the burning of houses in Haddatha. Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir warned that any attempts by Hezbollah to rebuild military infrastructure or threaten northern Israel would be met immediately and forcefully.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam responded by urging Hezbollah to avoid escalating the conflict. He asserted that the decision of war and peace belongs exclusively to the state and its constitutional institutions, warning against dragging Lebanon into a senseless adventure in service of outside interests. While the IDF claimed it remains committed to the existing truce, the incident sparked local outrage and reports of further intense strikes overnight.
