Activision Releases Call of Duty Black Ops Ports for PlayStation

Activision released ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops II for PlayStation 4 and 5, drawing criticism for high pricing and lack of technical updates.

Activision released ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on July 10, 2026. Developed by Iron Galaxy and Treyarch, the titles bring the 2010 and 2012 games to current Sony hardware for the first time, though they lack 4K resolution, 120Hz support, and an FOV slider.

While the ports include campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes, Wager Matches and Theater Mode were removed. The releases arrived without a formal announcement and do not support cross-platform play with Xbox. Some users view the lack of cross-play positively, noting that the Xbox versions are currently plagued by hackers.

Pricing has sparked significant fan backlash. The games are priced at $39.99 each with season passes at $29.99, though discounts are available until August 6, bringing the games to $19.99 and season passes to $10. PlayStation Plus subscribers receive further reductions, making the titles cheaper on PlayStation than on Xbox, despite Microsoft's ownership of Activision. Critics argue the high cost and separate DLC pricing for nearly 20-year-old titles are excessive and may fragment multiplayer lobbies.
