Andhra Pradesh Begins Counting Local Body Election Votes
The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission began counting votes for MPTC and ZPTC elections on November 7 following a turnout of 70.72 percent.
The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission began counting votes for 7,707 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) and 577 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) seats at 8 a.m. on November 7, 2026. The process is being conducted across 365 centers using over 39,000 staff and 9,062 counting tables. To prevent clashes between political cadres, the commission deployed nearly 20,000 police officers and utilized drones and CCTV cameras.
Polling primarily took place on November 5, though the Murasu cyclone delayed voting in East Godavari and Eluru districts until November 6. The final voter turnout was 70.72 percent, a 9.81 percent increase over 2021. The commission ordered fresh polls at seven stations due to booth capturing and ballot box damage.
Violence broke out in several districts during the polling phase. In Kadapa, activists from the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party and the Telugu Desam Party clashed using firecrackers and petrol. In Chittoor, Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party supporters allegedly injured a Telugu Desam Party candidate. Kurnool saw stone-pelting and a police lathi-charge after supporters of YSRCP leader Banagani Srinivas resisted his detention. In Anantapur, a government teacher on election duty died after falling ill at a polling station, prompting expressions of grief from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan.
