Los Angeles County Prepares for 2026 House Elections
Los Angeles County faces a shifting congressional landscape due to mid-cycle redistricting, a retirement, and an ethics probe into Representative Jimmy Gomez.
Los Angeles County is preparing for the 2026 U.S. House of Representatives elections amid significant structural changes to the local delegation. Mid-cycle redistricting has altered several boundaries, including the move of Representative Linda Sánchez from the 38th District to the 41st District. Two seats are confirmed to be open: the 26th District, following the retirement of Representative Julia Brownley after 14 years in office, and the 38th District, for which L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis is running.
Jimmy Gomez is seeking a sixth term in the 34th District while under investigation by the United States House Committee on Ethics for alleged sexual misconduct. Gomez has denied any violation of law or House Ethics rules, though he admitted to making "personal mistakes" outside of his marriage, asserting that the actions in question were consensual.
